Dr M S Tareen MB.BS., DMH, DM., MRCPsych
Dr Tareen is a Consultant Psychiatrist to Holywell Hospital Antrim and Whiteabbey Hospital. He has been practising psychiatry locally and internationally since 1995. He is registered with the GMC and is on the specialist register for General Adult Psychiatry. He is member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Medical Protection Society.
Dr Tareen is Clinical Lead of one of the Community Mental Health Teams and has a special interest in treatment for psychological trauma, depression, social anxiety, panic attacks, obsessive behaviours and work related stress. His other work includes treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder and other forms of psychosis. He is an EMDR Europe Trainer and uses Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma treatments. He also provides enabling short term therapies. He successfully ran an international project on trauma treatment as a capacity building initiative for developing countries.

Prof Miller, is a Consultant Psychiatrist based in MIRABILIS Health, a European Approved EMDR Consultant Therapist and EMDR Facilitator – accredited with the EMDR Institute (USA) and EMDR Europe Trainer in Training. He holds a dual CCST in General Adult Psychiatry and the Psychiatry of Old-age and is a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Life and Health Sciences, School of Nursing at Magee Campus of the Ulster University and a Teaching Assistant with the School of Nursing and Midwifery of Queen’s University Belfast; he has an active teaching and research being actively engaged in collaborative research between Ulster University, University of Worcester, and University of Amsterdam. Recently he was invited to join the Council of Scholars in the Future of EMDR Therapy Project. The Council is an intellectual community of 35 EMDR international thought-leaders, working together within the Project parameters to produce material that will advance the field, establish the parameters of EMDR efficacy, and identify areas for future research.
Aims and Objectives
To provide EMDR therapy trained clinicians, of all levels, the opportunity to gain and improve their skills in the areas of: case presentation; AIP model formulation and treatment planning.
- Develop their skills inusing a trauma-focused formulation of cases, according to the AIP model.
- Develop their skills intreatment planning, and target identification, according to the AIP model.
- Critically consider the AIP model and the modifications of the standard EMDR therapy model for complex cases.
Suitable For
EMDR consultants, practitioners and trainees are all welcomed.Newly qualified EMDR practitioners, those who may have completed their EMDR training some time ago, but who have had limited opportunity for experience and more advanced EMDR practitioners. This event enables participants to take their real-world cases and frame them within the AIP model of EMDR therapy. This will enable clinicians to gain further experience in how to work effectively with clients. It will reinforce good practice within the current evidence base of EMDR therapy and will explore the importance of the development of supervision networks and ongoing CPD provision.
