Sally writes: “I was born and grew up in Rochester, New York State, USA. I went to Syracuse University after which I worked as a Speech and Hearing Therapist for two years before joining the American Peace Corps. After training I was sent to the Philippines for two years as a Community Development Worker, a very worthwhile experience. When my placement completed, I spent several months travelling in Asia and then hitchhiked across Australia before returning to the USA by crewing on a 31ft. Trimaran sailing boat and sailed for four months in the Pacific Ocean, before landing in California.
On her return to the USA I again practiced as a Speech, Language and Hearing Therapist as part of President Johnson’s ‘War on Poverty’ designed to help the poor. Through mutual friends I then met Richard, got married and moved to the UK in 1968, where I continued to practice Speech therapy. Several years later, I went back to University and qualified as a Couples and Family Systemic Psychotherapist and set up in private practice, where I discovered the ‘wonder’ of EMDR. Consequently I have extensive experience both as an EMDR Consultant and also as a Family Therapist. What excites me as a founder of emdrgateway is being able to put my learning into videos that others can observe and learn from at a low cost, benefiting therapists and supervisors with their EMDR practice, and ultimately and most importantly, clients who seek EMDR psychotherapy.
I have now retired from active practice though I am still involved with emdrgateway. I also manage the rental of a separate lodge on our property which runs along the banks of the river Wye, said to be the most beautiful river in the UK, and which our family used for kayaking for many years. There’s fishing too, of course, though I haven’t been tempted yet!
