Case of a woman with a history of childhood physical and emotional abuse, and showing signs of Secondary structural dissociation with several parts to her personality. There is a high risk of dissociation, leading the client to lose contact with the present moment and be caught up in the past.

VIDEO 003 | ‘LOVING EYES’ PROCEDURE
What this is about:
Case of a woman with a history of childhood physical and emotional abuse. When different parts of the personality co-exist, hostility may also be present. The adult part may not be prepared to ‘accept’ an abused child part so that internal conflict will continue to dysregulate the client.

What’s this about:
Case of a man injured in an RTA in which his partner died. He was so affected by trauma that he did his best to avoid thinking about what happened to them. This is a natural defence designed to protect the individual. However, when this happens normal trauma processing will stall.

The case is of a woman in an on/off relationship with a jealous and violent man, but who still had feelings for him. When positive feelings exist alongside the negative affect, desensitisation and resolution of trauma with EMDR can stall.

The case involves a woman with a history of severe traumatic episodes, including sexual abuse by her father that started when she was 12 years old. She was extremely worried at the thought of facing what had happened to her and felt deeply ashamed.

Case of a woman who had an on/off relationship with a jealous and violent man. Though past traumas have been successfully resolved, she has a catastrophic fear of a future event - that he will return and kill her. She is suffering from ‘anticipatory anxiety.

A young woman called Hannah had been sexually groomed by her manager in her place of work. Eventually, she ended up being pimped for sex by her boss. The therapist had used the standard protocol to desensitize several target memories but there were aspects of the trauma that were too shameful for the client to verbalise.

What’s this about:
Many clients come to therapy with a problem that includes both positive and negative affect components. In terms of Shapiro’s Adaptive Information Processing Model, it’s as if there are two entry points to stored memory networks. Normally we target the memory of the negative experience, but sometimes the positive affect is more accessible.
What you will learn:

This video shows two case examples. In the first, a 40 year old woman experienced lots of pain during the stabilization phase of the work with her therapist. In the second, the client had been in a traffic accident and became stuck, immobilized and despairing during the desensitization phase.

This is a true story about a woman called Helen. The video describes her history - one of childhood sexual, emotional, physical abuse, and neglect, and includes an interview in which she tells of her experience with EMDR therapy.
